When thinking about beauty we always think of it more in terms of getting the right magic beauty cream but are we missing obvious simple steps that could have a dramatic effect on our skin and our hair? Here are my top 5 favourite pieces of basic beauty advice that I wish someone had told me about sooner....
1. Not taking off your makeup before you go to bed. Once in a while is not going to hurt but keep doing it and you risk clogging your pores and getting a visit from the spot fairy! If you are feeling lazy just thoroughly wet a reusable pad wipe away no fuss and you can sleep with clear skin and even clearer conscious!
2. Sun bathing! A truely unbelivable 80% of visible skin aging is caused by UV exposure and whilst avoiding the sun is frankly not something I would recommend I would recommend slapping on the sunscreen and avoiding the sun between 10am and 3pm.
3. Keeping your makeup for too long!! Did you know that makeup like food has an expiry date? Keeping that mascara once opened beyond 3 months is a no a no and it will become a breeding ground for germs. At best you may end up with irritated eyes and at worst a nasty bout of conjunctivitis (not the sexy eye look you were aiming for I am sure!), Many makeup brands actually print a date on the packaging so keep a look out for this and don't be tempted to go beyond it!
4. Give you hair a break! Stop overstyling your hair with damaging hair dryers and heat stylers. Over doing it will end up giving you not only lacklustre frizzy hair but give you a head full of split ends. At least once a week just leave your hair alone and even better give it a deep conditioning treatment every now and again.
5. Not washing your makeup brushes! Not washing your makeup brushes can lead to a build up of germs and lead to nasty skin breakouts. We recommend washing your brushes once a week. You can use your favourite cleanser, spray cleaners and there are even machines available that wash your brushes!
