First off Happy New Year! We are at that point in the year when we start to think about what it is that we want to accomplish and what changes we want to make that will make a positive impact on our lives. But a key factor in making sure we stick to our goals is to make sure the goals we set are first off achievable. There is no point in saying I am going to climb mount Everest if you can't even climb off your sofa!!! By setting goals, you are providing yourself with a target to aim for. A SMART goal is a tool that can be used for goal setting. SMART is an acronym that stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely. Therefore, a SMART goal includes all of these criteria to help focus your efforts and raise the chances of achieving your goal.
Specific: Target a specific area for improvement.
Measurable: Quantify or suggest an indicator of progress for measurable goals.
Achievable: Specify who will do it and how.
Realistic: State what results can realistically be achieved, given available resources.
Time-related: Specify the target date or general time frame when the result(s) can be achieved.
So what is an example of a health and beauty 'SMART' goal? Let's take skincare for example a commitment to cleanse, tone and moisturise every morning and night. So specific would be improve skin care routine, measurable would be improvement in skin over time, achievable would be YOU investing in quality skincare products (not necessarily the most expensive by the way!), realistic - expect realistic results don't expect every wrinkle to disappear overnight but think if the result is less dry skin if that is what you suffer from then that is a good outcome and finally - time related think a realistic time line e.g. 3 months of religiously doing your routine before evaluating the results!
So drum roll please for my super (not so) secret SMART goal inspired health and beauty new years resolutions!!
Aim to exercise at least 5 times a week this can include walking for at least 30 minutes a day this will improve my well being as improving my fitness. It will be achievable because I can incorporate it into my lunch break i.e. go for a run, walk or go to a lunchtime exercise class. It is realistic because 30 minutes is not a huge time commitment. Time frame will be to do it for a month then review progress with a view to tweaking the goal if necessary i.e. increasing the daily time or reducing the number of days a week. The objective is to make sure the goal remains feasible.
Improve skincare routine. What does this mean? It means no more skipping the morning and evening cleanse, tone and moisturise!!! No excuses it needs to be done. How am I going to do it? Well first off invest in toiletries that excite me and make me want to use them. Again I will review after a month to see how it is going and also to see if I can see any visible improvements in my skin (note I am currently suffering from a bout of dry skin caused by the winter weather so I am in extra need of a bit skin tlc!).
Improve hair care routine. I am guilty of being a little bit harsh with my hair. I have successfully at least in the last couple of months reduced my dependency on my hair dryer by using my very own CocoBabbit Luxury towel wraps which mean I spend less time drying my hair (one advantage of owning a beauty business is that I get to try out super cool beauty stuff all the time). But sadly that is about as far as I have got. So I am going to make an effort to put a leave in conditioner on my hair at least once a week. I think this should be the easiest of all the goals so far (famous last words!).
Well being and good mental health are super important so this goal may seem rather indulgent but in reality I feel like this is one of the most important goals here. My goal is to treat myself once a month this could be something simple like watching a good film, buying a new lipstick or even treating myself to a spa day (where I live they do super cheap £25 spa day offers at the local leisure centre so don't all get too excited about the cost). Why is this important? Well you may have a stressful job, a family, illness or any myriad of things which can take a toll on your health it is in this times and even if none of the above is relevant to you the background noise of the pandemic touches us all with on/off restrictions. So be kind to yourself and make time to treat yourself.
What are your health/beauty goals for 2022? Let me know in the comments I would love to hear them!
Once again Happy New Year and much love CocoBabbit xoxo
