Happy new year to everyone!!! If like me you are wondering where last went you are not alone. So if your last years new resolutions fell by the wayside then maybe it is time to use this period as a time to reflect on what went well and what didn't go quite to plan!!!

First off make a list of your goals from last year then tick off those you accomplised don't worry if you didn't complete any of them this is not an exercise in making yourself feel bad more as a guide for thinking about your goals for this year.

Next think about what it is you want to achieve this year use last years list as a guide only (your ideas and goals may have changed so they may not be appropriate. Keep your goal list short I recommend no more that 5 to keep it manageable. There is nothing more depressing than looking at a long list of goals knowing achieving them is impossible. Have at least one goal that is easy to do this could be getting up 5 minutes earlier every day to meditate or even giving yourself a monthly treat say a cinema trip or meeting up with a friend once a month for a coffee and a chat. Then have at least one goal that requires a bit more of a commitment and effort say learn a new language or new skill that you are desperate to learn. Commit to an online or offline course. It could be you have a career goal of changing job, increasing your salary etc really think about what it is you want to focus on whether it is self, relationships, career or health.

So my key to keeping up with my resolutions are:

  1. Make a list of 5 goals you want to acheieve this year

  2. Make one of these goals something simple and achievable to be done in January to keep yourself motivated for the rest.

  3. Make at least one goal a little bit more challenging something you will have to commit to throughout the year and maybe even beyond this could be go regularly to exercise classes or learn a new skill.

  4. The remainder of the goals should be a mix of the fun and the serious. This will help to keep things light.

  5. Don't beat yourself up if you don't manage to maintain or acheive everything you set out to do remember new years resolutions come round once a year so you can add them to next years list of 'to dos'!!!

Happy goal setting :)
