Depending on wherever you are in the world you are either in a lockdown, about to go into one are about to finish one! For me it feels like day 10000003 of lockdown…. ok slight exaggeration but it is starting to feel like it is never ending and I am unfortunately starting to fall victim to what I am calling the pandemic pounds….
I am working out at home BUT I can’t stop eating so whatever benefits I am gaining from my daily workouts is being more than offset by my transformation into the little arcade character Pac Man famous for his insatiable diet of constantly eating the little white dots to pass the level. So far, I have gained 2lbs (around 1kg) compared to pre lockdown (Aaaaargh)…. But I am not alone it seems. The first lockdown in Italy has resulted in a tubbier nation gaining 4.4lbs (2kg) and worse the French have gained 5.5lbs (2.5kg).
So here come my top 5 tips for preventing the pandemic pounds!
1. Home workouts! There are thousands of online workouts available as long as you have internet you are able to work out at home a quick look on the internet and there are options available for all levels and with/without equipment free and paid for (my personal favourite at the moment are the Beachbody workouts but there are MANY MANY more out there).
2. Plan your meals! Avoid the urge to eat everything in your kitchen at once and don’t be tempted to stock up on nasties like Chocolate and crisps…the occasional treat is one thing but avoid making it a habit.
3. Keep to a routine! If you are able to go for a walk/run at the same time each day (note this is lockdown permitting!!!) Get up at the same time, go to bed at regular times and eat meals at the usual times.
4. Eat healthy (5 fruit and veg a day!!!) you don’t need to become obsessed but eat your veggies and fruit and avoid too much fried fatty food.
5. Avoid boredom! Keep social speak with friends and family regularly, learn something there are loads of sites out there both free and paid for where you can learn something new….sites like UDEMY, Open Learning to name but a few (links are below) and I am pretty sure there are hundreds more like them….
